  • LAURA WILLIAMS PLEIN-AIR PAINTING WORKSHOP

  • Jul 31 2010 - 10:00 am - 04:00 pm

  • Location: Fremont Art Association

  • The Fremont Art Association is honored to once again present an outstanding artist and instructor, Laura Williams, whose July/August workshop will focus on brush work—the voice of your painting! Demonstrations and exciting exercises designed to rev up your brush work and revitalize your composition, techniques that will guide you to create sound paintings and capture emotions and evocative scenes. Understanding how brushwork defines the edges and how important it is to vary edges— hard, soft, rugged, loose, lost and found and how to use edges to direct the viewer to the point of interest.

The workshop will include an in-depth understanding and mastering of design and composition, truly the most important element in any painting. Explore breaking up graphic space as the key frame in the architecture of great painting using the Golden Section. Examine the principle of threes: small, medium and large for dynamic compositions. Center on attracting and guiding your viewer, enhance rhythmic linear movement from side to side, express compositional schemes of unity and balance as described by Edgar Payne and note the things to avoid!
This workshop is designed for students of all levels. Predominantly a plein-air painter, Laura will demonstrate how to paint a landscape indoors quickly and relatively small. We will work from photos or even a still life in the medium of your choice–oil or acrylic. The focus of the workshop will include design, composition, value, color and brush work. Participants will paint and the instructor will provide personal assistance. A great workshop experience and a good time will be had by all! Laura has been teaching workshops and displaying her art work for a number of years throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, Yosemite, and the Wine Country. Her artwork has received numerous awards. For a visual buffet of award-winning artwork, visit Laura’s website: www.laurawilliamsart.com.

  • Location: Fremont Art Association Gallery, 37659 Niles Blvd, Fremont, CA 94536

Find out how to eliminate fringing, the red lines that form around highlights. Use the curves to produce film like tonal scales and eliminate that “digital” look. Control your cameras color and tonal response by using camera profiles. Learn how to recover slightly overexposed highlights.

Photoshop for photography is a three-month series of weekly workshops that will cover in detail the operation of Photoshop CS for intermediate through advanced photographers. If you are a beginner and want to take the series you might consider taking the Photoshop Primer class to get you up to speed on basic digital image editing concepts. The basic operations will be covered in depth from simple through more complex uses. In each class we will divide the time between the introduction of the new concepts and working up images using the techniques we have learned.
